Member’s Handbook (as of Dec 15th, 2025)

Rehoboth Model Aircraft Association member requirements.

 

1. All users of the Rehoboth Model Aircraft Association airfield will comply with the rules and regulations herein.

2. The posted hours of operation of the RMAA Airfield are 9:00 a.m. to dusk. Electrics only before 10:00 a.m.

NOTE: There are times when the RMAA field is closed to all members due to private events on the property. We make every effort to notify all members promptly of these closures via text, email, and by posting closures and events on the club calendar page https://www.rmaarc.com/club-calendar located on the club website www.rmaarc.com.

3. Do not exceed 15 mph while driving on or around RMAA property. RMAA property runs from Kelly’s Ford Road (the entrance) to the flying site. Be especially considerate when passing neighboring properties.

4. No alcoholic beverages or illicit drugs allowed.

5. No operations will be permitted after dusk unless permitted by the land owner.

6.  You must be a RMAA member or guest accompanied by a RMAA member to use the RMAA airfield.

a.    A guest shall be permitted to fly for two days. 

b.    After that, the guest would have to join RMAA to continue flying at RMAA. 

c.    The one exception would be a guest who is from out of town visiting an RMAA member, not to exceed two weeks. Out of town is more than seventy-five miles away from the RMAA site.

7. First RMAA pilot on the field must text 703-994-2016 advising of their arrival. Last pilot out, must do the same.

8. All flyers must be current Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) members.

9. All AMA rules and regulations as outlined in the current AMA Members Manual apply at RMAA Airfield.

10. All flyers shall perform an adequate aircraft pre-flight inspection and transmitter/receiver range check prior to their first flight/use of the day.  All aircraft will be physically restrained, or the provided benches used, whenever the aircraft engine is started or the flight battery connected, until the aircraft has been placed on the runway for takeoff.  Use of any “transmitter inhibit” function is specifically declared inadequate to meet the intent of this requirement.  For larger electric-powered aircraft, the use of arming plugs is strongly encouraged.  All aircraft engines/motors will be shut down/turned off before the aircraft reenters the pit area.  Under no circumstances will aircraft be taxied out of/into the pit area.  In addition, when taxiing back to the runway area adjacent to the pits, flyers may only taxi their aircraft parallel to the safety line and shall not allow their aircraft, while the engine is running or the flight battery connected, to point into the pits.

11. Flyers are responsible for the damage he or she cause to other(s) property.

12. Flying must be conducted in front of the designated flight safety line within the boundaries of the RMAA overfly area. At no time vertically over people, or anywhere near buildings on the property.

RMAA Airfield -  FLYING SITE ETIQUETTE

1.  All RMAA members and guests are responsible for removing their trash from the RMAA field.

2. It is not recommended that non-flying guests and spectators be allowed in the pit or flying areas.

3. Runway and helicopter/multi-rotor aircraft area usage should be controlled by good communications between all flyers.

4. In the event of a dead engine, the pilot shall yell “dead-stick”.

5. Please, no pets or animals, except disabled assist animals.

6. Engine restarts on the Runway Area are not recommended.

Indemnification and Release of Liability

By signing and submitting a RMAA membership application, and/or by entering or using the RMAA property, fields, or facilities, the applicant/member/pilot acknowledges and agrees to the following:

They have reviewed, read, and understand the RMAA Pilot Handbook, including all safety rules and procedures.

They voluntarily assume all risks associated with flying, observing, or participating in any club-related activities.

They release, hold harmless, indemnify, and defend RMAA, its officers, directors, agents, members, and property owners from any claims, actions, damages, injuries, or losses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising out of their presence, use of the facilities, or participation in club activities.

This agreement is binding upon the pilot, their heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns.

The applicant understands and accepts full responsibility for their own safety and the safety of any guests they bring to the field.

By submitting a membership application, and/or using RMAA property and facilities, the pilot acknowledges and accepts this indemnification clause.

Unauthorized use of the RMAA field and facilities is prohibited.
